Thin Line Festival

Documentary Film and Music Festival
(Design and Art Direction)

2025 Update

The festival wanted to update the look to have a slight 80’s retro feel to it for this year but still retaining the original re-brand: Posters, Program Cover, Wristbands, Social Media

Original Rebrand: 2022

After a couple of years as a virtual-only festival, Thin Line wanted to return to in-person with style. As such, I revamped the brand identity to make it more exciting and with more emphasis on the core values and title of the documentary film and music festival. To do so, I designed a logo mark that illustrates the fine line between story and truth in documentary film and the binary nature inherent in the medium. The letters were abstracted and placed symmetrically opposed to each other, but in a way that they, along with the thin line of separation, all strike a balance and serve to support each other. The color scheme is predominantly dark, with a rich, warm black that leans into the feeling of film stock, darkened theaters, and low-lit music venues. Streaks of glowing reds and oranges punctuate this black, alluding to the ephemera present in these dark spaces: exit signs in clubs, gels on set and stage lights, recording indicators, lighters, burning cigarettes, etc.

Aside from Art Directing the overhaul of the brand, I also served as the sole designer to help implement it both physically and digitally throughout the festival. The following shows a small sampling of all the little pieces of design required to put on a festival of this scope.
